I think this thread is important to the future of this league. You GMs live and breath by the rules and format of this simulation. I hope that you bring suggestions and concerns to this thread so we can discuss them and take action, when warranted.
The new rules will be up shortly and I am open to suggestions on how we can make the league run better and make it more enjoyable for you.
So let's here it.........

I believe that bringing in the "salary cap" again, and having every player assigned a salary will make the league at a level playing field.
The way that the "free agent" rule works is kind of making it a disadvantage for teams that usually ontop of the standings of being able to acquire free agents.

That brings up a couple different things that I agree on. Of course I'd rather get things up and running now, prove myself as commish to Mike B, Andrew, and the GMs before I make some major changes.
I agree that bringing in the financial side of things may have a purpose. I think there are some great options in the STHS that we aren't using that will make the league better and more realistic. Finances can play an important part but for it to work we need 20 SOLID GMs that want to pay attention to detail. I think we should get the league running smooth and establish good GMs before we take that leap.
I am NOT a fan of current Free Agent protocol. I also agree that it needs changes. I'm looking more towards real-life as to how free agents end up on teams as a starting point for a better system in our league. I have some news ideas that not only level the playing field but make free agent acquisition more realistic. My concepts don't revolve around bidding or salaries - so maybe it's something that could be pitched at some time this month. But like I said , baby steps are needed to get what's already in place running smoothly before making changes.
Your suggestions are good ones and we will certainly return to them in the near future.

There are some managers in the league that never reply when you offer them a trade...this should be ground to get kicked out of the league if it happens all the time!
I know for a fact I have sent numerous offers to Mississauga and never got a reply.
Something needs to be done about this!

I have also sent an email to Mississauga about his involvement - hoping to get a reply. If nothing comes of it - then we'll have to find an active owner.

A concern has been raised about trading 16 year olds. I don't think you can do that until they turn 17 (in OHL years) which would be January 1st. Anyone else know the specifics??

In real life only 1st rounders can be traded in the season after the draft and only for the week leading up to the trade deadline. Anyone drafted in the 2nd round on can't be traded until trading opens again in June.

SO just to be clear.... 1st round picks can only be traded the week before the trade deadline. 2nd rounders can't be traded at all in the year after being drafted?
If so I will incorporate this into the rules but I don't think we can reverse trades or begin that now - as all GMs should have equal grounds to trade as those before them already have done. Instead we will have to work this into the start of next season.

I have sent another email to the Mississauga owner about his lack of involvement. If I don't hear back from him again, then I will be going to the GM waiting list.

Hey there boys.
Long time no talk. Yes Jerry, I am swamped with non-FHL things lately. Come Dec.2nd I should be back to normal.
I definitely agree with this non-response thing from email communications.
When I joined the league last year I was told that it was great because of all the involvement from GM's.
Other than for WIN, KNG, BRM, KIT, PET and a select other few, this league is pretty dormant.
Jerry what else are you thinking of doing of returning OHL players like James Delory. I was to contact KIT about acquiring him off the prospect list, but Delory's name has been removed.
I know OSH is planning on bringing back another OA Dman to their team and this player is missing from his respective simHL team.
Good job buddy! Dean

Anyone drafted in the 2nd round on can't be traded until trading opens again in June. In the OHL NO 1st Round Picks are moved PERIOD. That is their way of keeping teams from tanking, if you go back in the OHL's trade history there have been ZERO movement of 1st round picks. Because the talent pool can sometimes be diluted (3 star players, and then the rest of them down a notch) it prevents tanking teams from collecting an all-star team in one draft, 1st round picks are however availbale to be moved at January 1st. For example John McFarland of Sudbury can't be moved, but as of new years and up to the trade deadline (usually Jan. 10-12) he could be traded frm there on in, the actual pick used to draft 1st rounders is never allowed to be moved, thats why you see tanking teams piling up 2nd round picks, becasue the 1st rounders are inaccesable.

I am working on this. I've tried to get Mike to see about a change but nothing easy can be done. I may see if I can find a way around it - as I'm sure it's annoying.
