So right now we have a standard trading deadline in the 3 leagues of end of January.
One of the things that make these sim leagues fun is the trading process. So, should we be extending this deadline? Or should we leave it as is?
Also, is there any rules we should come up with. I know when we first started these leagues, we had general managers trade 20 guys for 20 guys. Just insane massive deals that would never happen in real life.
Should we have a roster limit in a trade? Also, a trading freeze saying that you can't make more than 1 trade with a team every couple weeks or something along that nature.
Or we have guys that sign a free agent then put him on the market right away because or the priorety draft.
So maybe we should have a rule if the free agent has a higher rating than 70 would get an automatic NO TRADE claus put in there contract for that current season but it would be removed in the off season. Because the reality, high profile free agents never get traded the next day. Maybe the following year. Just an idea.
Thoughts?

I like the way it is currently. You guys generally do a good job of limiting lopsided and ridiculous trades... and the trading deadline (although different from the real CHL) gives half the season to make deals.
I also don't have a problem right now with teams trading free agents that they sign. I know they wouldn't do that in real life... but real teams have a lot more options for improving their squads than we do. If the lower-ranked teams want to move the free agents for picks and prospects... I don't think there's any harm in that...
Brings them more of a chance of succeeding (and having more fun) next season!

One thing I wanted to get an opinion on this scenerio
To XYZ John Smith And after the season ends Joe Smith will go to ABC
To ABC John Doe Jim Doe
I know the OHL has implemented a rule that prevents these types of deals happening. I know in SIM league, I have seen some of these deals go down in the past, and they tend to get complicated (especially if the GM changes in the off-season). Are we going to implement some rules regarding this scenerio or are we going to leave it.
As for a trade freeze with other teams, I think it is something that would have to be discussed as I have a few guys I deal with on a routine basis (trades, hockey discussion) and I am comfortable in dealing with them. I don't think having a trade freeze between two teams for a short time would do anything, but as I said in a previous thread, I think if there is obvious abuse of trades being made that make no sense, then freezes should be implemented.

In the QMJHL in real life, a player cannot return to a team for 3 years. So a 17 year old can't return to his orginal team until 20.
Now that we're tracking history, its a little easier to track that.
I don't know if this is something we want to incorporate or not. More work.

Hey,
I think that we should all incorporate the same trading deadline for next season. The rate we are going, the three leagues will finish towards the mid to end of March. Everyone loves to trade, but there is something that can be said about having a deadline so that GMs can try to get their team to gel with each other before the playoffs. Maybe have the trade deadline be January 31st for all three leagues.
As for the rule of one player can't get traded back to a team that he was on before...that's just too much to undertake as a commish. I know there are new measures in place that will help track it...but it still will take time to keep an eye on it.
As far as the Free Agent signing with a team and then trading him...I don't have a problem with that...it will help a team rebuild and help the other team have a run at their league's championship.
Maybe we should come up with some major questions and throw them to a CHL league vote and institute the winning rules for all three of the leagues to institute at the start of next season.

This season in the Q, Val D'Or signed free agent Joe Dillon and then traded him the same day to Moncton for a 12th round pick. So the free agent thing does happen sometimes in real life. Really if a team signs a free agent than they should be allowed to do whatever they want if him.

I tried to time mine with the same number of games in the real league. So our trade deadline just passed last Friday – as we had played about the same number of games in our league, as the real league had when their deadline arrived. It turned out to be 1 week later than the actual OHL. We had a flurry of activity in the dying minutes of the deadline and had one deal happen seconds before the deadline. I decline a deal that was 1 minute late. One of the GMs even applauded my efforts to stick to the deadline with an email this weekend. My time signature on the trading times is off by 2 hours, not sure if that can be fixed – but I just compensated for it. If we want to do a CHL wide deadline then that's fine but I think end of January is a little late, especially compared to real OHL. I thought that all 3 real CHL leagues had different trade deadlines and rules anyway -so I just customized ours to suite the real-deal. Sorry - was I bad!?

In the Q... the real one is only like 2 weeks long I think...
Which would be REALLY sucky in a sim league... in my opinion!

Yeah, we had the real QMJHL trade deadlines last season and we ditched it half way because general managers didn't contibute that much because they only could trade for two weeks. no good.
I think we should always just make the trading deadline the same in all three leagues. Like January 31st or something like that.

I think its a good idea what we are doing right now thr trade deadlines being at the end of January 31st so the gms can make as many trades so they can get the team they are being the gm of better
