Why are people still moving first round picks when they aren't movable? And players that can't be moved until next season? Do we have a bunch of GMs in here that know nothing of the OHL or just don't bother to read the rules/know the rules?

i am guilty rob. i guess i don't fully understand the ohl rules, but have also read these posts.
how do you then move a player like tavares? i am not going to move him for a bag of pucks and a waterbottle.
i guess i should review the steve mason trade from last season to give me an idea. wasn't kadri a first round pick?
how does one fully expect to move a stellar player such as JT for half-decent players?
please advise.

no worries Rob, i just re-read the 16yr old post. i guess Jerry can decline this trade and i will wait until the new year to make any major trade(s) involving JT.
once again, this was my mistake and i should have re-read these posts before making the trade with OWE.
thanks for keeping me honest!

There CURRENTLY is no rule in OUR league that stops the trading of 1st rounders or 16 year olds. I too have a problem with this .
I`m REALLY worried about no action now - as a team could bleed its future by making these moves and then walk away, from the league, in the coming years and make it just about impossible for a new GM to rebuild that team.
I`m leaning towards a rule that would follow the course of the real OHL. Teams would NOT be able to EVER trade 1st round picks. Teams could not trade a first rounder until Janary 1st, following his draft. Then next season we would phase in the number of 16 year olds allowed on the roster.
Thought anyone.

just let me know either way.
i want to get fair value for a player like JT, similar to what KIT got from LDN last yr for Steve Mason which included Kadri.

I take you must be planning on vacationing during the 2009 draft! Since you only have 2 draft picks left.
Another rule should be that you can only trade 4 picks for the coming draft (leaving at least 4) And only trading 2 for the draft 2 years from now. (leaving 6) That would ensure that any new GM would still have SOME draft picks to use.

yep, put in these new rules for all to follow.
i think it's for the betterment of the league. even though i trade away nearly all my picks, i was still planning on being around in the years to follow--you know me, i am a hockey nut...you can't get rid of me that quickly.

Kadri was included as a future considerations and went to London after the season was over. Teams do this sometimes for a player to be named later so they can keep them for their playoff run. Oshawa and Windsor had a similar deal that sent Mitchell to Windsor after the season was over in the Neuvrith trade. About the draft picks, I know what the rules are like for the OHL about not being able to trade first round picks, but I believe it was stated last year by the commish that it was allowed because the other leagues were able to trade them. It was meant to create an even playing ground between the leagues I think.

Thought anyone. we could phase in the limited number of underagers this year, the rule is the team is allowed 3 Underagers (16 year olds) and the stipulation about goaltenders is IF the goaltender was among the first 3 players drafted, the team has the option to hold 3 16 year old skaters as well as the 16 year old goaltender if the goaltender was not drafted among the first 3 players taken then the goaltender would count as one of the 3 spots, you wouldn't get that extra 4th spot for a netminder.
